PESTO PUFF PASTRY STRAWS

Puff pastry is a staple in my house & it should be in yours too. It can be used to make so many things from appetizer to dessert. It's a very versatile ingredient. Want to accompany a meal with something delicious? Need something to accompany your dip? Having a cheese & wine night? Last minute guests? I have a super quick and easy festive snack to share with you that you can whip up in less than 15 minutes. I use ready made puff pastry rolls for this recipe making it fast and easy to put together. I had a whole lot of basil at home and some puff pastry in the freezer so I decided putting them together was a great idea. So, I blended up my own pesto sauce. You can definitely use store-bought pesto to make this process even faster. These puff pastry straws are light, crispy, melt-in-you-mouth delicious… A quick and easy appetizer with big flavor!

Ingredients:

  • Puff Pastry

  • 1 cup basil

  • 2 garlic cloves

  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1/4 cup olive oil

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a food processor, put basil, garlic cloves, Parmesan, lemon juice, oil, salt, and black pepper. Pulse until smooth.

  3. Cut puff pastry into long strips about 3/4 inches wide each.

  4. Brush pesto sauce on one side of each piece of pastry dough and twist to form spiraled straws. (Hold the ends of each pastry strip and twist moving your hands in the opposite direction.)

  5. Place on baking sheet about 1 inch apart then place in oven for 10-15 minutes or until pastry puffs and turns golden brown.

  6. Remove from oven and let cool.
